Leesa and I both share our vision of the important role responsible, knowledgeable breeders play in creating and maintaining fancy rats suitable as both show contenders as well as cherished pets.
We've both been involved in rescue as well as patronizing pet stores over the years where the only breeding goal is quantity with little or no regard to health or long term quality of life. Although it was the adorable personalities of many of these individuals that were responsible for getting us hooked on pet rats in the first place, their often illness-prone, shortened life spans proved both costly as well as heartbreaking. The belief that healthier more genetically 'whole' pet rats should be available to enhance fanciers' lives is a driving force for us. These rats are created to make the entire experience of owning (and being owned by) these fabulous creatures a longer, more rewarding one.
We are equally vested in avoiding any contribution to the increasing problem of pet over population. None of the animals we produce will EVER unwittingly become another person's responsibility or problem. We're committed to providing a good and fulfilled home to any of our rats that have not been selectively placed in suitable homes. A rattery, however noble the goals, can only be as credible as their overall execution of every aspect of their operation. We strive diligently to remain part of the proverbial solution and not the perceived problem.
Education of the public is essential when it comes to understanding the ramifications involved in the purchase of pet rats. Pet stores overwhelmingly acquire their rats from large commercial breeding facilities, where their money is made by repeat quantity sales. As long as transmittable disease is kept to a minimum, their obligation to the animals is considered met. Each purchase from pet stores financially enables their replacements and perpetuates the cycle. Those who love pet rats are put in a position of choosing to be constantly reactive (meaning cleaning up messes left by the money-driven pet store industry), or proactive, which involves the support and recognition of competent breeders. The future of pet rats really boils down to the choices fanciers make.
Rescue/sympathy adoptions will always be part of the equation, but to truly understand the whole picture, one must realize the vital role credible, accountable breeders play when it comes to impacting any animals that share our lives.
It's with this noble goal in mind that we strive to play a small part in creating healthier, happier pet rats, more fulfilled fanciers, and proving by example to the world what wonderful, albeit sadly often over looked, bundles of perfections we share our lives with.

We dedicate our websites to our two respective heart-rats that even posthumously continue to remind us that soaring souls know no physical bounds.
Atticus and Melvin, aka Mr. Squishy, to you both our homage pay.
